Apple is actively working on its iPhone 14, in a context that is difficult to say the least. While the break seemed consumed with the supplier of slabs BOE, the Cupertino company changed its mind.
For years, Apple has used various suppliers for the screen of its iPhones. A way to ensure that you always have equipment in the event of an incident, but also to be less dependent on an entity. It is for this reason that the Cupertino company has signed partnerships with Samsung, LG, but also with the Chinese BOE for its Oled panels.
The latter, however, almost lost the confidence of the Californian giant during the production of the iPhone 13. Indeed, BOE had decided to discreetly modify certain technical specificities of the 6.1-inch Oled screens which fitted the standard model.
A freedom that Apple did not appreciate at all, and which would have caused a temporary exclusion from its supply chain. This necessarily amounts to a big loss in the revenue of a subcontractor. However, it would seem that BOE is again in the small papers of the American.
A simple hook-up?
Aware that the international context can easily hinder the supply of hardware for the iPhone 14, the firm would have quickly backtracked. In any case, this is what the Chinese site IT Home indicates. According to the latter, BOE will finally supply a small part of the 90 million Oled tiles planned for the entire new range, usually presented in September.
We also learn that Samsung Display will produce 60 million units, while LG would have received an order for 25 million screens. BOE should deliver 5 million, and once again focus on the standard model, equipped with a 6.1-inch LTPS Oled panel.
It is certainly less ambitious than its competitors, but it nevertheless makes it possible not to lose a particularly valuable contact in the industry. It remains to be seen whether Apple has renegotiated the previous prices downwards or not.
