iPhone 14 hands-on: what the replica of the Apple cell phone reveals

A hands-on to the iPhone 14, months before the start of sales and the presentation of the Apple cell phone? How can that be? The explanation is simple, the well-known YouTuber “Unbox Therapy” had the opportunity to get his hands on the first non-working replica. But what does this demonstration model tell us?

iPhone 14 Pro Max: Apple phone replica answers some questions

The creation of such replicas, mockups or simply demonstration models without any technical function is not new. Every year, these months appear before the actual presentation and serve as a template for bag manufacturers to correctly tailor the appropriate cases. 2022 is no exception. Concretely in his hands “Unbox Therapy” holds the Replica of an iPhone 14 Pro Max and can thus draw a comparison to its immediate predecessor, the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

The first confirmation is for the changed front design. Instead of a notch, the display has two openings in the shape of a pill and a circle, intended for Face ID sensors and the actual front camera. Not surprising at this point. Other details that are not yet known are more obvious:

  • There are no antenna bands on the edges of the iPhone.
  • The power and volume buttons are slightly larger.
  • larger object – 16.17mm vs. 15.51mm

Differences in dimensions were already known. “Unbox Therapy” can also confirm this in hands-on. The housing is slightly thicker and the camera phalanx is also more voluminous and higher. As Apple expert Ming-Chi Kuo previously noted, this is probably a concession to the new camera with a larger 48-megapixel sensor.

The concept artists are spot on:

How realistic is the hands-on?

Overall, the replica iPhone 14 Pro Max paints a fairly familiar picture of Apple’s upcoming phone. Despite the innovations, the relationship to the current iPhone 13 series is obvious. The wow effect is therefore missing, the upgrade is not worth it just because of the design. The question still arises: Can the replica be trusted? A definitive answer to this will not be available until the official launch in September. Nevertheless: In the past, such demonstration models were usually very accurate. So we would rather not count on bigger surprises apart from that.
