iPhone 14: improved performance and charging for a price that would remain the same

The rumors about the next iPhone 14 do not stop anymore. A few weeks before its official release, the new Apple phone continues to deliver its secrets, especially on the performance and price front.

The new iPhone 14s should be out in about a month and, as is now expected, the leaks on this new range of smartphones are endless. Dummy models have already unveiled what may be the design of future phones, but more recent rumors allow us to know more about what they will have in the belly.

Chip optimization

For its new generation of phones, Apple would a priori be doing something new with something old. The iPhone 14 (the basic model, as opposed to the Pro models) should indeed continue to use the Apple A15 chip that the company already uses in its iPhone 13. On this side, nothing new, Bloomberg had already raised this possibility a few weeks ago. In contrast, a new rumor from the Twitter account ShrimpAppleProclaims that despite this recycling of components, the iPhone 14 will still benefit from a performance boost.

The use of a new 4G/5G modem as well as a rearrangement of the phone’s architecture could offer a performance boost at little cost. The iPhone 14 may also pack more RAM, which should help breathe new life into the A15 chip. No doubt that some well-thought-out software optimizations will allow the new iPhone to gain in velocity. Anyway, Apple does not seem to want to give the image of a “recycled” phone that would not innovate, too bad if the shortage of components makes the development of new chips more complicated.

30 W charge and price at 909 €

Another leak reports improved iPhone charging. More precisely, the new iPhones would support powers of up to 30 W, at least for the start of the charging cycle. A slight jump from the 27 W that the current iPhone 13 Pro Max can support. This should make it possible to recover a few precious percent of battery more quickly in the event of a dry outage. The load would then drop to 25 or 27 W, to preserve the battery and not overheat the phone.

Finally, according to the South Korean blog Naver, the base price of the iPhone 14 should not move. If we are to believe “a major American financial institution”, which is not mentioned, the entry-level model should cost the same price as the previous ones, ie 909 € in France. For an equivalent model, therefore, the new iPhone should not be more expensive. The entry price to discover the range would however be more salty since there would be no iPhone Mini. The model, a priori not very popular, is selling today for 809 €.
