iPhone 14 Pro: Find out how much the “Always On” screen consumes your battery

The “Always On” mode of our connected devices is generally very practical. However, it can also have a significant impact on the battery… A criticism that has been made in particular against theiPhone 14 Pro.

Recent tests carried out on the Apple smartphone give us very interesting information on this subject.

A novelty that affects autonomy?

We had to wait until the launch of the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max to see the “Always On” function being adopted by Apple. This permanent display displays elements such as the time or notifications without having to unlock the mobile. Thanks to the rollout of iOS 16.2, users are now able to turn off the colored background for a simple, less flashy black background.

In short, the American firm has been able to improve its copy. Despite everything, some doubts could remain as to the impact of such a feature on the endurance of the battery. Indeed, the permanent display can have serious consequences on the autonomy of a telephone. The YouTube channel PhoneBuff therefore carried out an extensive test in order to measure the real influence of Always On on the battery of the iPhone 14 Pro.

It’s not that dramatic…

Finally, after 24 hours of use, the smartphone is doing quite well with the always-on display constantly activated. When the famous Always On is coupled with a colored wallpaper, the discharge is 0.8% faster per hour. Without background, only 0.6% additional discharge is required. Over a full day, the loss can therefore reach up to 20% battery, which is clearly not catastrophic.

Of course, these measures are only valid if the permanent display is used continuously for 24 hours. You should actually know that the mode deactivates itself in many specific cases. The screen remains completely black when the iPhone 14 is in a pocket (or bag), in low consumption mode, when the screen is positioned face down or if the user is connected to CarPlay.

So to speak, there is still little chance of keeping the Always On mode active for a whole day. The battery should therefore not suffer too much.
