Rumors abound regarding the future iPhone 14 and 14 Pro. It was whispered that a new design had been in preparation for a while and that this iPhone 14 would sign a revival on the design side with, for the first time, the disappearance of the famous notch on the Pro versions. Despite this, this supposed year of rupture may not be the one we believe for several reasons.

However, there is a change that has recently attracted attention: the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max would have a more protruding photo block. But it would be for a good cause.

A new lens and a module that is still growing

It is a well-known source in the person of analyst Ming Chi Kuo, used to forecasts, who gives us an overview of what the photo module of the future iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max would contain.

According to him, Apple would finally be ready to switch to superior optics for its main photo sensor, which would therefore make the smartphone module stand out more than ever. Kuo tells us that the surface of this famous module should be 25 to 35% larger than the previous one and that its height should also be increased by 5 to 10% compared to the iPhone 13 Pro.

The main reason for the larger and more prominent rear-camera bump of the 14 Pro/Pro Max is upgrading the wide camera to 48MP (vs. 13 Pro/Pro Max’s 12MP). The diagonal length of 48MP CIS will increase by 25-35%, and the height of 48MP’s 7P lens will increase by 5-10%. https://t.co/lrwgmnLNce

This logical, although annoying aesthetic change could sign a show of force from Apple, which already had among the best photo performances of all smartphones combined last year. Note that the last increase in the number of megapixels dates from the iPhone 6S.

These larger sensors should allow more light to be collected and incidentally improve the quality of images, but we should know more about its capabilities soon.

Brand New Abilities

Apple is rumored to use a 1/1.3-inch sensor in the future with smaller pixels than the iPhone 12 Pro Max (1.25µm vs. 1.7µm previously). This iPhone 14 could also use the pixel binningthis technology allows you to combine several pixels into one to have better details in your scenes, especially in low light.

This new sensor would also allow, among other things, to film in 8K, which would be a first on an iPhone.

Increased segmentation between models

Alongside that, Apple would draw a clearer separation this year between these two flagship models: the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Pro. The first would this time keep the chip it was already using last year, the A15 Bionic, and would introduce a new Max version. The Pro model would lose its notch in favor of two small punches.

The Pro model would also get Apple’s newest chip, the A16 chip which is expected to be the industry’s new gold standard for the coming year. Little by little, we will learn more about these different smartphones.
