The robot portrait of the future iPhone 14 is becoming clearer. A Youtubeur presented dummy models of future Apple smartphones. We can see a screen with a punch that would break with the design of the well-known notch.
With the WWDC 2022 which has just ended, it will now be necessary to wait for the next school year to have new Apple announcements. The company of the late Steve Jobs should present on this occasion its new range of phones, the iPhone 14 and 14 Pro. As is often the case with highly anticipated phones, many leaks and other speculations about the design and features of future smartphones are coming from all directions.
In a video published on June 11, 2022, the YouTube channel iUpdate gives details on the look of the iPhone version 2022 using a dummy model, supposedly very close to the final design of the new mobiles. The most notable change would be on the side of the Pro and Pro Max models. As some rumors already mentioned last year, Apple’s most high-end models could abandon the notch at the top of the screen in favor of a slab with a punch where the front photo module would be housed and the Face ID system.
This aesthetic choice could put off those allergic to punches, but would allow Apple to offer an even more impressive edge-to-edge screen than on previous generations. Apple would follow the trend here, since many Android manufacturers have already adopted this design. In bulk, we can cite the Samsung Galaxy S22, the Google Pixel 6 or the Xiaomi 11T Pro. The only difference would be that Apple would use a double punch, one for the front camera and the other for the facial recognition system. The design of the iPhone 14 and 14 Max would not change. As for the Mini model, it would simply be eliminated this year.
New photo modules?
At the same time, other rumors about the iPhone 14 photo modules have resurfaced. The always very knowledgeable Ming-Chi Kuo claims in a blog post that the entire iPhone 14 range would benefit from an improved selfie sensor. Confirming old rumors, the analyst explains that this new module would integrate 6 lenses – and not 5 as on previous models -, would benefit from autofocus and a lens opening at f / 1.9, against f/2.2 today.
On the back of the Pro models, we should finally find a new 48 Mpx sensor for the wide-angle camera. The latter would also be able to record videos in 8K. Standard models will have to make do with the same 12 Mpx sensor as on the previous generation. It is still expected that the experience will be improved thanks to small software or hardware tweaks, such as new lenses or new processing algorithms.
