Years after the competition, Apple will finally offer an Always On display on its iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. If it was necessary to be patient, and that it will be necessary to pay the price to benefit from it, the functionality should however stand out…

While the photos taken with the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will weigh heavily on your storage, Apple seems to have kept us a little surprise regarding the always-on display of its high-end smartphones.

The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max at the heart of the news

This year, the apple brand seems determined to want to move things forward with the high-end versions of the iPhone 14 (including prices). After introducing Dynamic Island, the notification system that revolutionizes the notch of the iPhone 14 Pro, and announcing to us that its devices would, for the very first time, be equipped with a 48-megapixel wide-angle lens, the firm from Cupertino has reserved a surprise feature for us regarding its Always On display.

It was probably the feature exclusive to the iPhone 14 Pro that leaked the fastest, months before it was made official. The new iPhones will take advantage of iOS 16 to offer users permanent lighting thanks to a display frequency that can go down to 1Hz. You will be able to see the time, your widgets or even your notifications when your device is in standby mode. But in order to further optimize your phone’s battery, Apple will introduce a new option to this feature.

A smarter (and more fuel-efficient) Always On display

First designed to allow users to save their smartphone battery, the Always On display of the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max will however go a little further than its competitors. As YouTuber Felixba pointed out, if a user has an Apple Watch that has been paired with an iPhone 14 Pro or Pro Max, then the phone will automatically turn off when it detects that its owner has left the room. .

According to the assumptions made by WCCFTech, this functionality would be possible thanks to the proximity data sent from the watch connected to the iPhone. An option that could well prove to be very useful over time, especially for those who have several devices from the Apple ecosystem. This is obviously with a view to allowing their smartphone to hold the charge as long as possible.

All of this will be in addition to the ability for the screen to turn off when your iPhone is in your pocket or turned over. As a reminder, the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max will both be available from September 16. They will be respectively marketed from 1,329 euros and 1,479 euros in their 128 GB variants.
