Available for a few weeks now, the iPhone 15 have a very practical wireless charging system… unless you drive a BMW.

Indeed, at the beginning of October, various iPhone 15 owners reported on specialized forums and social networks a concern visibly caused by the induction charging pad on board (recent) BMW vehicles. Wireless charging from BMW would in fact tend to render the NFC chip on board the latest iPhone out of service.

BMW and Apple, what’s the problem?

At present, the problem has not been resolved, and it is still highly recommended not to recharge your iPhone 15 in a BMW vehicle. Recently, MacRumors announced that an internal Apple memo, intended for third-party repairers, indicated that a software update was in preparation, to prevent a ” small number » deactivate on-board wireless chargers « temporarily » the NFC chips of the iPhone 15.

For its part, BMW quickly raised the problem via its British account X.com (formerly Twitter), indicating that the company was working with Apple to investigate the problem.

Toyota also in the affair?

It remains to be seen when this software update will be available, hoping of course that it manages to eradicate the problem.

Indeed, without an operational NFC chip, iPhones can no longer be used to pay via the Apple Pay service or to use any function using this same technology.

Note that if BMW vehicles are the most affected by this problem, the manufacturer Toyota would not be left out.

Some users have reported a similar malfunction aboard their Toyota Supra, whose design shares various parts with another vehicle… namely the BMW Z4 roadster. The two vehicles notably share the same CLAR architecture, the same engine, as well as the same eight-speed automatic transmission supplied by ZF.
