iPhone 15: the 6th wifi standard reserved for the Pro model?

iPhone 15 rumors are rife. As expected, it is the Pro and Pro Max versions that crystallize the most expectations, and they should benefit from many more innovations than the standard models. These versions could notably benefit from an A17 Bionic chip, more RAM, but also a new haptic feedback system on the side buttons and an even more efficient periscopic lens.

Blayne Curtis and Tom O’Malley, two analysts from Barclays, looked at the advances to be expected in terms of connectivity. According to them, the Pro models will be the only ones to benefit from the 6e wifi standard. The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will be content with wifi 6. Which is enough to make people cringe.

As a reminder, wifi 6 (or 802.11ax) operates on the traditional 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands and offers a higher theoretical speed than its predecessor. It is designed to improve data transmission and facilitate tasks such as streaming or online gaming. The 6e wifi extends the possibilities by introducing the 6 GHz band. It therefore has access to a wider frequency spectrum, which helps reduce network congestion and provides more channels for data transmission.

A slow democratization

Apple has already integrated the 6e wifi standard in several of its products, such as the iPad Pro 2022, or its recent Mac Book models. But the Cupertino company does not seem in a hurry to democratize it on the rest of its catalog, which is not the case for the competition under Android.

A strategy which could make it possible to justify the increase in the tariffs to come. Indeed, analyst Jeff Pu recently explained that the two most high-end models should see their prices increase.
