At the start of 2024, rumors around the iPhone 16 are starting again. Late last week, Jeff Pu shared several interesting details about the next generation of Apple smartphones. In a note to investors relayed by 9to5Mac on Sunday January 14, the analyst initially focuses on the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus.
After mentioning the presence of an A18 chip engraved in 3 nm on these models, Jeff Pu mentions a change on the RAM side. We thus learn that the amount of RAM would increase from 6 GB on the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus to 8 GB on the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus. Until now, only the iPhone 15 Pro was entitled to such a privilege.
In addition to improved performance, standard iPhone 16s would benefit from better connectivity thanks to support for wifi 6E. The Pro models, meanwhile, would upgrade to wifi 7 to offer even higher speeds.
Jeff Pu then discusses the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max. According to him, Apple has given up on the current 5G modem for the iPhone 15, the Qualcomm X70. Its replacement would be the Qualcomm X75, unveiled early last year.
Heading towards 5G Advanced
Thanks to this new component, the Apple firm’s next iPhone Pros would support 5G Advanced, the latest 5G standard delivering much faster connectivity, in particular thanks to improvements in AI and machine learning. When it was made official, Qualcomm indicated that this new chip also presented notable developments concerning “coverage, latency, energy efficiency and mobility”.
Finally, the analyst once again affirms that the ultra-wide-angle sensor of the iPhone 16 Pro would increase to 48 Mpx, compared to 12 Mpx on the iPhone 15 Pro and previous generation devices. For your information, whistleblower Ming-Chi Kuo also counted on this possibility earlier in the year.
