The tech rivalry between Samsung and Apple is fiercer than ever, and the Korean manufacturer has lashed out at its rival over a troublesome software bug affecting iPhone alarms.
In a recent Instagram video, Samsung UK poked fun at the issue which in recent months has caused alarm clock crashes among iPhone users. This may have happened to you, but many people online have reported that their alarm just isn’t going off.
The clip features the soundtrack of the “doggy DJ” meme with the following text: “ Don’t worry, our alarms are going off. Samsung users woke up on time today “. The alarm bug appears to be widespread enough that Apple has officially acknowledged it and is already working on a fix.

While Samsung’s PR stunt is amusing, it highlights the very real issues iPhone owners have had to deal with due to this bug over the past few months. Many reports on social media and support forums describe cases where iPhone alarms remain silent without prior warning.
The causes appear to vary, with some users believing that apps like Instagram and Facebook can trigger the bug when running in the background. Others have failed to put their finger on the cause of the problem, although they tried all the usual troubleshooting tips.
For many, the only reliable solution so far has been setting multiple redundant alarms, using a different clock app, or even resorting to an old-fashioned physical alarm clock. This is obviously not an ideal solution for a device that prides itself on offering a smooth and reliable software experience.
Apple has not yet indicated when a permanent fix will be rolled out, but may have already found the culprit: the Attention Aware feature. This uses facial recognition to detect your face and deactivate or not the sounds on your smartphone accordingly. Poor detection is therefore probably the cause of this problem, and we therefore hope that the fix will be deployed quickly.
