iPhone becomes PS5: Sony has a hand in this controller


The new game controller “Backbone One” in the PlayStation Edition for iPhone bears a resemblance to the PS5’s DualSense wireless controller. Because Sony was personally involved in the development.

The Backbone One controller was designed and developed in cooperation with Sony. It brings gaming to the iPhone, the design was visibly inspired by the PS5, even transparent button surfaces were considered. The makers write (translated):

The look and feel of the Backbone One – PlayStation Edition was brought to life by our design team in collaboration with the brilliant minds at PlayStation. The sleek colors, materials and finishes are inspired by the design of the PS5 console’s DualSense wireless controller, right down to the transparent buttons on the front and the visually distinctive, fluid appearance.

If you want, you can also get the controller in a black version. Cost point in this country respectively almost 120 euros (view at Backbone). There should also be “Backbone One” for Android, however, delivery of this variant is not expected until November. But you can pre-order now.

PS5 games playable via remote app with controller

According to the manufacturer, the iPhone version of the controller is compatible with all iPhones; a special adapter is also included for the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. If you get the controller, you can simply plug in your Apple cell phone and start playing. For example directly PlayStation games about the PS Remote Play app or games from the App Store, within Apple Arcade, or via Xbox Remote Play.

The “Backbone One” is not only connected to the iPhone and charged via Lightning, there is also a additional Lightning connection, with which the iPhone and controller can be charged directly with electricity. There’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack, which the iPhone otherwise lacks, and a button for taking screenshots and game clips. There is also a button for directly opening the associated Backbone app.
