The story takes place in the United States, in Utah, where a woman decided to walk her dog in the canyon of Mary Jane. A flash flood washed away the woman and her dog, but using the satellite connectivity feature of her iPhone 14, she was quickly able to send her GPS coordinates to local authorities.
After a message sent to the rescuers (by satellite therefore) at 7:22 p.m., the walker and her dog were rescued about two hours later. The latter had indeed not immediately realized that her message had been sent, and she was rescued by helicopter, about 3 km from where the precious SMS was sent.
