iPhone SE 4: no Face ID on Apple’s future “affordable” iPhone?

Rumors around the next iPhone SE continue to flourish. Barely a few days after the first information appeared on Apple’s future “cheap” mobile, we still learn a little more about it via hallway noises reported by youtuber Jon Prosser.

According to the videographer, who has often relayed many rumors about Apple products, the next iPhone SE could adopt a design similar to that of the iPhone XR. This corroborates information already shared by Ross Young a few days ago. This means that the latest iPhone with the center button would disappear from the Apple catalog in favor of an edge-to-edge screen design. It must be said that the current iPhone SE clashes a bit with the rest of the Cupertino catalog because of its now quite dated profile.

An aging iPhone SE

What’s more, the current model (sold around 550 €) becomes difficult to recommend given what the competition is offering, in particular the Pixel 7. Giving a facelift to the entry-level iPhone could be smart from Apple. Unlike the iPhone XR, this future iPhone SE 2023 could do away with the Face ID facial recognition mechanism. The absence of a central button also means that the Touch ID sensor could be found on the edge of the device, at the level of the power button.

Reusing the same design as the iPhone XR would save Apple production costs. A welcome prospect at a time when the iPhone 14 saw their price inflate in Europe. Faced with fierce competition, Apple will have to convince the public to opt for this model rather than for higher-end Android competitors, sold at similar prices.
