Long claimed, but never really mentioned by Apple, the disappearance of the Lightning port on the iPhone may be about to materialize. This is what a rather well-informed analyst seems to confirm…

Last October, a student succeeded in replacing the Lightning port of an iPhone with a universal USB-C socket. Alas, consumers still can’t take advantage of this benefit, but Apple may consider it in the relatively near future. This is according to Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst who has conducted the investigation on this subject in recent weeks.

An almost imminent change

The main interested party therefore announced through several tweets that Apple would drop the Lightning for a USB-C port from the new iPhones which will be launched in 2023. Kuo also believes that this major modification will improve the speeds of charge and transfer smartphones. However, performance should also “ depend on iOS support “.

Rumors about the arrival of a USB-C port on the iPhone are not new. Apple has notably added such a socket to its recent iPads and has even made the Thunderbolt ports of several Macs USB-C compatible. It should also be remembered that the European Commission aims to make the USB-C standard quite simply mandatory for charging electronic devices. The American brand would therefore avoid many worries by changing its tune.
