The consumption of content offered through illegal IPTV boxes is constantly increasing. The Netherlands is a notable exception. This is due to the work of BREIN.

The BREIN (Bescherming Rechten Entertainment Industrie Nederland), the organization responsible for defending authors’ rights in Holland, aims to be ruthless towards pirates of all persuasions. Whether you are a Kodi-based streaming box retailer, host an illegal streaming service, or even just a consumer of illegal movie theater recordings, rest assured that the BREIN will hunt you down and punish you.
Tim Kuik, Director of BREIN, says: “ we are not limited to big fish, even the little fry who thinks she can bite into a piece of the cake will not escape the fine”. The organization does not hesitate to communicate on this subject. On the institutional site, we learn that in 2022, the fishing was very good. Nineteen illegal IPTV service providers have been tracked down and prosecuted by the establishment.

And it works. Without even mentioning the lawyers’ fees, the judgments against the pirates are enough to demotivate the budding illegal broadcasters: damages often amount to several tens of thousands of euros. According to BREIN, “just last month, the court in Arnhem sentenced a Dutch citizen living in the Dominican Republic to pay €25,0000”.
Despite his resolutely aggressive speech, BREIN knows how to adapt its methods to the size of the offenders. Last month, a small distributor of illegal videos had to agree not to share any more links against the payment of a rather modest fine of 500 €. If the BREIN catches him red-handed, the punishment will be much more severe and he will have to pay €1,000 per broadcast day and €500 per illegal link.
