Iran: At least 15 dead in a “terrorist” attack in Shiraz

DUBAI, Oct 26 (Reuters) – At least 15 people were killed and 10 others injured on Wednesday in an attack on a Shiite shrine in Shiraz, southern Iran, the Iranian news agency Irna reported.

The agency said the three assailants, who opened fire on worshipers and security forces from a car, are “takfiri terrorists”, the term used for fighters from Sunni extremist groups such as the Islamic State.

Two of them were arrested and the third is still wanted, police said. According to another Iranian media, Nour, they are not Iranian nationals.

This attack against the Shah-Tcheragh shrine in Shiraz took place while numerous demonstrations were organized in Iran to mark the fortieth day of the death of Mahsa Amini, at the origin of the protest movement which is shaking Iran.
