The lawyer for the family of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian girl found dead three days after her arrest by the vice squad, has announced that her parents have filed a complaint against the police. The young woman had been arrested on September 13 for not respecting the strict dress code.

Mahsa Amini’s parents have filed a complaint against the police who arrested their daughter on September 13 for not respecting the strict dress code for Iranian women, said the family’s lawyer, quoted on Wednesday by the Isna news agency. This 22-year-old woman died on September 16 in a hospital in Tehran, Iran, three days after her arrest by the morality police.

A request for a detailed investigation of the arrest

“Masha Amini’s parents have filed a complaint against the perpetrators of their daughter’s arrest and (the police) who have spoken with her since her arrival at the morality police,” said Me Saleh Nikbakht. “We have asked the chief prosecutor and the investigating judge to carry out a detailed investigation into how the arrest took place until Mahsa was transferred to hospital,” the lawyer explained. He also demanded from the authorities that they provide “all the videos and photos” available during the entire period of detention of Mahsa Amini in the hands of the morality police.

The head of the prosecution “promised that the case would be handled thoroughly and that all our requests would be taken into account,” said Me Nikbakht. According to the lawyer, the head of the prosecution also promised “that a medical team appointed by the family of Mahsa Amini would be informed of the course of the investigation”.
