Iran: nine dead in an explosion south of the capital Tehran


Nine people including six women died in an explosion triggered by a gas leak in a building located in the southern suburbs of the capital Tehran, an Iranian Red Crescent official said on Thursday.

An explosion on Wednesday evening in a building in Robat-Karim, south of the capital, left nine dead and nine injuredIranian Red Crescent director Shahin Fathi told state television. Television said six women were among the victims of the tragedy. The three-storey building was destroyed in the detonation produced by the gas leak, Shahin Fathi added. According to him, the rescue operation ended in the morning, after eleven hours of searching for the survivors. Located south of the capital Tehran, the poor city of Robat-Karim has more than 100,000 inhabitants.
