Iran seizes fuel smuggling vessel, third in April


The Revolutionary Guards, the ideological army of the Islamic Republic of Iran, announced on Sunday that they had seized a foreign ship smuggling fuel in the Gulf and arrested its eight crew members.

This is the third arrest of smuggling ships announced by Iranian forces since the beginning of April in the Gulf, a region through which a large part of the world’s oil passes.

Vessel “carrying 200,000 liters of fuel smuggled into the northern Persian Gulf was directed to the port of Bushehrin southwestern Iran, the Revolutionary Guards said in a statement published by Iribnews, the state television site.

Eight crew members, foreign nationals, were arrested and handed over to judicial authoritiesโ€œ, they added.

The statement does not specify the date of seizure of the boat or the flag of the vessel or the nationality of the crew members.
