A few hours after Iran’s drone and missile attack on Israel, Tehran believes it has taken revenge following the Israeli strike which destroyed its consulate in Damascus. In several cities of the Islamic Republic, including the capital, a few thousand people gathered to greet the Iranian attack, shouting “Death to Israel”, “Death to America”. These images, however, are far from representing the reality on the ground, assures Mona Jafarian. Guest of the Grand Rendez-vous, the president and co-founder of the Femmes Azadi association affirms: “this attack is that of the Islamic Republic and not that of Iran”.

“Iran belongs to the Iranian people and the Iranian people are the first to condemn these attacks,” she said at Sonia Mabrouk’s microphone. Attacks that the population “experiences very badly since we know that there is a possible response”, worries the president of the Azadi Women association. Mona Jafarian, however, is not surprised by this escalation: “we know that the Tehran regime, via its terrorist proxies, has been seeking conflict for a very long time now. The very ideology of the Islamic Republic is in its slogan ‘Death to Israel , death in the United States and death in the West’ So ultimately, there is nothing surprising in this escalation since we know that the regime is determined to carry its ideology through to the end.”

Within Iran, “the revolution continues”

As for the scenes of jubilation, which took place in certain Iranian cities after the announcement of the attack, Mona Jafarian recalls that “if you take Tehran, there are 12 million inhabitants and there were not even 10,000 people in the street. The people who are in the street are militiamen of the regime,” she assures. According to her, these are propaganda images: “If you look at the media of the Islamic Republic today, you have the impression that they hit Israel everywhere, that it was an attack that was completely successful. And these videos that you see, which are spread by the regime itself, are made precisely to make the world believe that the Iranian people are behind the regime and that everyone is happy about these attacks.”

For Mona Jafarian, “it is very important for us that people are aware that the images that come today from the Islamic Republic are not the reality on the ground since we are today facing a regime that has countered him his people, since it is estimated that they only have 10% of supporters within the country itself.”

Within Iran, despite the repression against the Iranian population and particularly against women, “the regime is deeply undermined”, insists the president of the Azadi Women association. “The Iranians are screaming to the world ‘we are not the Islamic Republic and the revolution continues'”, she concludes at the Grand Rendez-vous microphone.
