Ireland Baldwin and mother Kim Basinger have given an interview together for the first time and in it they opened up about their mental health problems.

Ireland Baldwin, 26, and mother Kim Basinger, 68, opened up about mental health issues on Facebook’s Red Table Talk by Jada Pinkett Smith, 50, her daughter Willow Smith, 21, and her mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris, 68 problems in their past.

Ireland Baldwin, who says she experienced “a lot of alcoholism and drug addiction” in her family, “self-medicated” with Xanax, a powerful tranquilizer, and drank heavily. “I was emaciated and lethargic,” says Ireland Baldwin in the interview from beforehand first excerpts were published. At rock bottom, one night she “went way too far drinking and taking pills because I couldn’t even go to bed without them. I had no control over anything in my life and was struggling with my eating disorders.”

No contact with her parents for a year

She isolated herself from her true friends and family at the time. The model revealed that she had not spoken to her mother or father Alec Baldwin (64) for about a year. “I saw them here and there, but I was so ashamed of who I had become and how I was living.” She just became that other person.

In the first interview with her daughter, Kim Basinger talks about suffering from agoraphobia, an anxiety disorder. It was “really terrible” to fight the condition “as hard as I did over the years without knowing what it was”. She didn’t leave the house, didn’t go to dinner anymore. “The illness is like something that shuts everything down in you and you have to relearn everything.” The actress explains that she had to relearn how to drive and did not want to drive through the tunnels of Malibu for many years. “Everything becomes a big task. You are very shaky all the time and often just exhausted.”

The whole interview will be on Wednesday evening at Facebook released.
