The cost of living keeps increasing. To counter a loss of purchasing power, the minimum wage and certain social assistance could be revised upwards next year.
Will an increase in the minimum wage and social assistance happen in 2022? It could well be. the
cost of living has increased significantly in recent months. INSEE published a report this Tuesday, November 30, which indicates that the level of the rise in consumer prices made a good 2.8% compared to last year. According to BFMTV, this increase is mainly attributable to the soaring prices of fuels, natural gas and electricity. The INSEE report underlines that the average cost of energy has reached + 21.6% over the last twelve months.
So that citizens do not lose too much purchasing power, the minimum wage will be revised upwards on January 1, 2022. According to BFMTV, experts advise a revaluation of the minimum wage between 0.5 and 0.6%. “If the government is satisfied with an increase of 0.6%, the gross monthly minimum wage will reach 1,599.40 euros, i.e. 60 euros more than in 2020“, adds the media. Invited to speak on BFM Business, the Minister of Labor, Elisabeth Borne, assured that the increase would undoubtedly be higher than these 0.6% recommended since inflation is higher than the forecasts of the government. “We have a system that is very protective, we already had an increase in the minimum wage of 2.2% on October 1, so we will have a new increase on January 1“, she explained.
Towards an increase in social assistance?
For their part, the RSA and family allowances will also increase, but not before April 1, 2022. Why? Quite simply because the amount of these social benefits is influenced by the rise in prices. BFMTV specifies on the other hand that it is for the moment impossible to know to what extent this aid will be revalued. “It will depend on the evolution of inflation between now and then“, according to the newspaper.
