Released in theaters on March 6, Boléro takes us to 1928. While Paris lives to the rhythm of the Roaring Twenties, dancer Ida Rubinstein commissions Maurice Ravel to provide the music for her next ballet.
Paralyzed and lacking inspiration, the composer flips through the pages of his life – the failures of his beginnings, the fracture of the Great War, the impossible love he feels for his muse Misia Sert… Ravel will then dive into the deepest deep within himself to create his universal work, the Bolero.
Carried by Raphaël Personnaz as Maurice Ravel, has this biopic directed by Anne Fontaine convinced AlloCiné spectators? With a score of 3.4 out of 5 (average of 101 ratings on March 7 at 4 p.m.), the work was generally appreciated with a majority of ratings between 3 and 5 stars.

Too long ?
Math719 appreciated Boléro, despite a downside over time. “A pleasure to discover how this composition was known and in what condition! Raphaël Personnaz is great and all the actresses who play are resplendent too. However, there are a few lengths, without being a masterpiece, it is interesting .”
Slow and boring?
If the majority of the first spectators were convinced by Anne Fontaine’s proposal, some missed it: “Not great at all, it’s slow and very poorly played; the only good thing is still the music of the Bolero otherwise it’s deathly boring”indicates Hervé B.
According to Omg151, “despite the beautiful sets and costumes, the film is quite boring and didactic. This story around the creation of the Bolero lacks passion. The staging is very flat, as academic as in a luxury TV film. The actresses flutter and cavort around Ravel, played by Personnaz with sickly interiority.”
