Gatcha game par excellence, Genshin Impact is based on a succession of ever more charismatic characters to motivate players to go through the box of wishes, sometimes with great fanfare of hard and stumbling euros. This business model has been a hit on mobile devices for a long time, and its popularity is not about to decline. Except that the vice hidden behind the gatcha model is precisely the often meager chances (drop rate) of obtaining the character of our dreams, without putting your hand in the wallet. Especially since on this famous drop rate, Genshin Impact does not shine by its generosity, since you only have 0.6% chance of getting a 5-star character when pulling.
But despite all this, the game is still one of the least greedy and pernicious in the gatcha game market.
The coolest pity?
On Reddit, a certain LRTendoPain recently posted a message praising miHoyo’s “franchise” through the pity system. According to him, said pity system would erase the catastrophic drop rate of the game.
As a reminder, pity is a system that guarantees 5-star characters once a certain number of summons have been made. On Genshin Impact, if you have performed 89 summons without obtaining a 5-star character, the next summon will necessarily be a 5-star. Even better: on a banner dedicated to a 5-star character, you have a 50% chance of obtaining the one that is on display, when obtaining a 5-star character. If you ever miss this coin toss, the next 5 star drop will MUST be the banner 5 star.
The icing on the cake: the pity count does not reset to 0 from one banner to another. Therefore, every 180 sweaters you are guaranteed to get the character of your choice. Very few gatcha games can boast of having an invocation model with such a clear return on investment.
Keep accounts of your summons’
Thanks to this “honest” pity (we’re still going to keep big quotes, huh), Genshin Impact is a fairly frustrating gatcha, even for free to play players. Indeed, you just have to count your wishes well and methodically aim for certain 5-star banners to be sure of landing the desired characters.
