The heart-shaped button gives way to the + symbol, and Spotify takes the opportunity to add new features.

It’s a subtle, but important interface change that Spotify just announced in a blog post.

The like gives way to the + and that makes all the difference

Since its creation, Spotify has allowed you to like albums, songs or even playlists using a small heart-shaped button. The latter, integrated absolutely everywhere in the application or on the web service, was intended to quickly add the songs that we liked in a dedicated playlist.

In the coming days, the iconic button will give way to a new symbol, the “+”. More than just a cosmetic change, this new icon ushers in new ways to categorize your tracks faster with two clicks.

A new button to add favorites directly to personal playlists

Like a song, album or playlist? The “+” button gives you the possibility to add it to your library in one click, in the same way as before. A green tick confirms the success of the operation. This also works for podcast episodes.

You can now click this button again to open a new menu that allows you to drop the song or album directly into a playlist of your choice. No need to go back to your list of “liked titles” and then do some tidying up, Spotify offers you with its new + button to do it on the fly.

The streaming service explains that it has conducted some research on the behavior of its subscribers and that this new button “ saved time and gave users the ability to add to multiple playlists at once and improves the discovery of new artists, by allowing listeners to easily find the songs, but also the albums from which they are taken, unlike a like.

Spotify says the “+” button will appear in the coming weeks in both its desktop app, web service, and iOS and Android apps.
