New week, new starting point: Nemo has a new stage outfit, had to give up the lead in the betting and was not completely fit at times. Shortly before the second semi-final, SRF feels the pulse of the Swiss ESC hopefuls.

On Thursday evening, Nemo will sing for a place in the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. The first week in Malmö, Sweden was eventful – is Nemo now ready for the semi-finals?

Second place in the betting

Until the rehearsals last week, Nemo led the ESC betting odds for around a month. Meanwhile, Switzerland has been… Overtaken Croatia and Baby Lasagna, “Rim Tim Tagi Dim” has been in first place in betting for a week – by far: the Croatian entry is currently predicted to have twice as many chances of winning as ours.

Nemo seems to be calm about it: “The ups and downs are part of this crazy game.” And adds: “What really counts is the evening itself and the performance. That’s what I focus on, I have no influence on anything else.”

New material on Nemo’s skin

Part of this performance is the new stage outfit. The first, the Nemo wearing it during rehearsals last week was restrictive. The partly negative comments added to the uneasy feeling. Nemo wanted something in which Nemo could be more open and show more skin.

The hair in the other look would have had an unintentionally “comedic effect”. “We always wanted to be as far away from funny as possible,” says Nemo. “The song is so important to me that I can definitely radiate a certain seriousness but also emotionality during the performance.” That’s exactly what the rehearsals are for, says the 24-year-old musical talent from Biel.

The voice is right again

“In the last few days I’ve been a bit weak in my voice,” says Nemo. But everything went well during the rehearsals on Wednesday: “It was a huge weight off my mind.”

The semi-finals can come: “It’s going to be really cool. I really enjoy the stage design and the dynamics of the performance. The steps of the choreo are in place, the groove sets in – I feel ready for the show. Let’s go!”
