The Korean manufacturer could reduce its range of smartphones to meet the expectations of its customers.

Samsung will present in a few days the Samsung Galaxy S23 and S23 Ultra, a new range of smartphones consisting of three models. However, this could be the last time the brand opts for this configuration.

There will be three Galaxy S23s this year

This rumor originated from an article on the site The Electric. He said he had unearthed the references of the next Galaxy S24 which would have been named DM1, DM2 and DM3 internally. The publication then explained that it had not found traces of the DM2 model, corresponding to the “plus” versions of the Samsung Galaxy S, and drew the conclusion that this model would no longer exist in 2024.

The site was quickly denied by Roland Quandt of the site WinFuture who indicated in a tweet with a particularly dry tone that The Electric had taken a wrong turn. The DM1, DM2 and DM3 would actually be the code names for the Samsung Galaxy S23. The information would therefore be incorrect, and there is no indication today that the Asian brand wants to draw a line under its big-screen model by next year.

If there will be three smartphones presented at the beginning of February, the disappearance of the S24+ model could nevertheless make sense for the brand.

Samsung may discontinue ‘plus’ model due to disappointing sales

The Samsung Galaxy S22+ smartphone, released at the start of 2022, would not have found its audience. According to some reports, this model represents only 17% of the total sales of the S22 range. When we know that this 2022 vintage is not a great success for the brand, we can understand that Samsung wonders if the right decision is not simply to stop the costs.

The Samsung Galaxy S22+ offers a screen size similar or almost to that of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, and it is possible that consumers interested in these screen diagonals have preferred to invest a little more to obtain the most advanced model of the range. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra was able to cannibalize the sales of this model, stuck between the Galaxy S22 and its more affordable price, and the innovations and technologies introduced with the Ultra version.

The Galaxy S24 range is probably still in full development, and the brand has a few months left to make its decision.
