Is sucked off – “mud over it” at Lake Neusiedl

Several measures are intended to secure both shipping and the survival of Lake Neusiedl. One of them is sucking out the mud in the ports. This is happening in Illmitz in Burgenland.

Think big – that’s the motto of the state when it comes to the water level of Lake Neusiedl. So far, the municipalities have been responsible for pumping out the sludge from the lake and this was done every few years. Now See-Management GmbH is taking on this task and is supposed to provide a holistic solution around the lake. Mud has already been sucked off in Rust and Mörbisch, now it’s Illmitz’s turn. Here the technical equipment is active in the area of the harbor basin and is supposed to work its way up to the boat landing stage. “It was sometimes difficult for the boats to get out of the port, which should be improved by sucking off the sludge and hopefully also secure the next season,” said Mayor Maximilian Köllner Fetch mud from Lake Neusiedl. At the same time, there should also be reed management and the supply of external water is still being planned. But what Lake Neusiedl really needs is rain, rain and more rain. So that it and the paints all around fill up with water again. Then all these measures would be unnecessary.
