Is the iPhone 15 as slow to charge as its predecessor?

Despite the adoption of USB-C to the detriment of the Lightning port on its smartphones, Apple would still limit the charging speed, confining it to the capacities of iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Although the iPhone 15s have not yet been delivered and no tests have yet been published, we already know a lot about what they have in their stomach. However, there are still some outstanding questions that users will have to answer for themselves.

The new USB-C port, for example, still brings its share of mystery, and we can assure you that it is already being scrutinized very closely. Proof of this: the Japanese blog Mac Otakara conducted some tests on the new charging capacities of the iPhone 15, and the results are not amazing.

The 30 watt milestone is difficult to cross

So, where is Apple’s new smartphone? At the beginning of the summer, rumors announced values ​​of around 35 watts. But according to Mac Otakara, the firm would have limited the charging power of the entire range to… 27 watts, which brings us back to the same figures as last year. Indeed, while the iPhone 14 could support up to 20 watts, its Pro Max counterpart was capable of holding a stable power of 27 watts.

If there’s one point where iPhones lag behind the competition, it’s charging speed. It seems that this will be the case again this year, while USB-C allows us to go further in this area. And this even if, moreover, Apple offers a 35 watt charger and has just introduced a new USB-C cable capable of supporting a power of 240 watts. All in the iPhone accessories category.

Of course, these figures will have to be confirmed by further tests. But ultimately, the rumor launched by the Japanese blog is not that surprising. Limited to the USB 2 standard, the iPhone 15 port is not very promising anyway. As for its Pro version, if it explores new possibilities, it is not impossible that Apple did not wish to innovate on the battery side this time.
