It could be The Last of Us Part II is entitled to what resembles a remaster, or at least a port, on PS5.

In any case, this is what was discovered by PlayStation Game Size, a well-known data miner when it comes to Sony’s gaming branch. The account would have unearthed its find directly within a PlayStation database. In it, mention is made of a native version for the PS5 of the excellent Naughty Dog title.

A relevant narrative choice?

As a reminder, The Last of Us Part II was released exclusively on PS4 in 2020. Shortly after the painful release of the PS5, an upgrade (fortunately free) made it possible to play it on the latter at 60 fps, unlike the 30 fps allowed by its big sister.

If we have not yet had an official announcement, it will not be long before the Game Awards 2023 ceremony will take place on December 7. It was also through the Summer Game Fest, another event organized by Geoff Keighley, that the PS5 version (then later PC, with a particularly infected port) of The Last of Us Part I had been announced.

However, we can question the relevance of announcing and deploying a native PS5 version of the second part, only three years after the release of the original version.

Naughty Dog losing momentum?

We can find the beginning of an explanation, by conjecture, from Naughty Dog itself. The latest news was that it was focusing its attention and efforts on a standalone multiplayer game in the universe of The Last of Us.

But it seems that the development of this title is also affected by cordyceps, the studio encountering many difficulties with it. Worse still, several employees were recently laid off, a sign of fragile health at Naughty Dog.

This portage of The Last of Us Part II could thus be a way for Naughty Dog and Sony to make a healthy income. The title has indeed been acclaimed by critics and players (despite terrible outpourings of hatred from certain fans), having sold more than four million copies and having received numerous awards, including that of the game of the year at The Game Awards 2020.

The Last of Us Part II takes nothing away from the perfection of its predecessor. He doesn’t reshuffle any cards. It’s a game that doesn’t spoil anything; which embellishes everything and even gives more than one might expect.
