Is the new vertical base of the PS5 Slim compatible with the old console?

Sony is marketing a new vertical base for the PS5 Slim. Priced at €30, it is also compatible with the console launched in 2020.

To support the launch of the PlayStation 5 Slim, available since November 24, 2023 in France, Sony is marketing a new accessory: a base that allows you to use your console vertically without fear of falling. Said base, priced at €30, was supplied with the model released in 2020. In the packaging of the Slim, we only find two small plastic feet which allow the console not to tip over when it is positioned horizontally. .

This new “vertical base” at least has the merit of being much more elegant than the one originally supplied, with a more premium metal finish (normal, for €30). And imagine that it is not only compatible with the PS5 Slim, as we can discover on the product page that can be purchased in the PlayStation Direct store.

Yes, Sony’s new €30 base is compatible with all PS5s in the world

Compatible hardware: PS5 model CFI-1000, PS5 model CFI-2000 – Slim ”, we can read on the base sheet. The “CF-1000” numbering refers to all PlayStation 5s that are not Slim models, sold since November 2020. The new version is therefore symbolized by a serial number starting with the number “2”.

Since the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Slim do not have the same design, the base installs differently. There are two different screw holes, each corresponding to a single version of the console (screw from below, by hand or with a coin). Also note that the CFI-1000 versions require an additional “fixing plate” to be compatible. It is obviously provided. This is proof that the base was first designed for the PS5 Slim.

Why would we want to spend €30 on an accessory we already have? Simply to improve the design of its console, more beautiful vertically, since the multifunction base of the original PS5 is made of plastic and is not very pretty. Remember that Sony also offers color plates for around €50. Personalization always has a cost.
