Certain documents are required to vote in the presidential election. Others less. The voter’s card is not necessarily essential, even if it is better to have it on D-Day.

The first round of the 2022 presidential election is scheduled for April 10, followed by the second round on April 24. The voter’s card is actually a document proving registration on the electoral list of the municipality. It contains various information (surname, first name, home address, date of birth, voter number, location of the polling station), which can be found in written form, but also now a QR Code which simply points to a site official.

What ID is accepted to vote?

As for the documents that can be presented as an identity document, there is of course the identity card (including the brand new national electronic identity card), but the Ministry of the Interior recalls in several dedicated sheets that many other documents are accepted, such as passport, vital card with photo, driving license and certain other more specific documents.

Please note: the acceptance of certain documents requires the satisfaction of certain prerequisites. For example, the passport must be valid or expired for less than five years. As for the driving licence, it must be valid. There are also documents to produce in the case of a European national (who can only vote in municipal and European elections).
