Is your bank the cheapest?

Inflation, which reached 6.2% on an annual basis in November, will it also be felt on the bank tariffs which will apply at the start of 2023? Very little. On this ground, consumers seem to be generally sheltered from a surge in prices. According to the calculations made for The world by the comparator Panorabanksnetwork bank tariffs will increase “only” by 0.43% on 1er January. The study, based on seven customer profiles, covers a panel of 103 establishments.

At the start of the school year, the banks made a commitment to the Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, not to raise their prices by more than 2% next year. Promise kept, then.

However, the objective set was not the most ambitious: “As the annual increase is generally below this 2% threshold, the banks’ commitment is more a symbol than a revolution”, notes Thomas Tugendhat, managing director of the consulting firm Stanwell. But the effort remains “significant in a period of declining purchasing power”, he continues. Especially since it is accompanied by a gesture aimed directly at the most modest: the drop from 3 euros to 1 euro per month in the price of the banking offer intended for fragile customers – a breath of fresh air for the budget of 688 000 people.

Stable credit card price

The main item of expenditure, the classic bank card is not subject to a price increase: the annual fee is stable on 1er January 2023, at 43.30 euros for the classic version with immediate debit and 43.15 euros for deferred debit. Holders of a Visa Premier or a Gold Mastercard will pay 1% more in 2023: the average cost will reach 128.13 euros for the high-end version with immediate debit, 127.72 euros for deferred debit .

It is still possible to save money on bank charges. The main solution to reduce the score is obvious when reading the results of this annual survey of the World : remote banks are about ten times cheaper than networks. Without agencies to finance, they can afford to offer more attractive rates. Boursorama Banque, Fortuneo, BforBank and, to a lesser extent, Orange Bank, Hello bank! and Monabanq monopolize the first places in the rankings compiled by Panorabanques.
