Isabel Edvardsson: In an interview about her new figure after giving birth

Wow, Isabel Edvardsson inspires at a photo shoot for the sustainable beauty brand “OYESS” not only with her sympathetic charisma, but also with her self-confident attitude towards her changed figure.

In April, Isabel Edvardsson, 38, became the mother of a son for the second time. The new happiness in the family of four with husband Marcus Weiß, 46, and son Mika, 3, can be clearly seen in the Swede. The professional dancer speaks exclusively to GALA and RTL about this happiness and her beautiful new figure. However, when Isabel talks about the effects of the corona crisis on the entertainment industry, things get very serious for a moment.

Isabel Edvardsson: She is much more relaxed with the second child

GALA: Dear Isabel, how are you as a mother of two? What exactly has changed?

Isabel Edvardssson: I’m doing very well. I have always dreamed of two children, this dream has now come true. I know that having two healthy children cannot be taken for granted, so I am incredibly grateful. Overall, however, I’m also more relaxed. When I had my first son at the age of 35, all the work around the birth was a bit more stressful and exhausting. Now everything is more relaxed.

Of course, everyday life has changed with two children, but that’s at least a good side effect of Corona, if you can say that you don’t otherwise have so many appointments. However, for my second child, I had decided to take a lot more time for the little one and my family and to do it really hard. When I was born for the first time, I had planned that too, but then I started again early with projects, dance courses, etc. This time I say no, I’ll stay on the sofa and relax. Overall, I now look at life very differently. It’s amazing how much you can love two little children now.

Your older son is three years old. How does he deal with the offspring?

My older son is super proud. At first he was a little jealous, but that’s no longer an issue. We also take a lot of time for him, do not make him feel like we are in second place and involve him everywhere.

You have not yet revealed the name of your second child. Will you tell us

No, please understand. My husband and I have decided that we want to keep even more private things to ourselves. For example, we never showed the bigger brother anywhere in public, not even on Instagram & Co. … You may be able to change that later when they are much older, but now would be too early.

Basically, there are two reasons for this: on the one hand, the risk of child photos being misused on social media; on the other hand, I find it terrible to post your child like an object for a few likes. If you only have something to say about your children, you should try to find new topics for your friends and followers. I’d rather be a role model and show how responsible parents can be.

Physical changes after the second birth

Not only your life, as you say, your body has changed too. How do you perceive this optical change in yourself?

Of course, I am extremely aware of these changes, after all, I now weigh around 18 kilos more than, for example, a year ago with “Let’s Dance”. As a competitive athlete and professional dancer, I’m particularly body-conscious. I usually feel every fiber and change in my body. Now everything seems a bit strange when your own body suddenly looks so different. I don’t think that’s bad in any way, it’s just new.

Incidentally, I had already decided during pregnancy that I didn’t want to worry about food. Of course, the diet should be healthy, but when I felt like a second plate of pasta, I ate it with pleasure.

Did you find it difficult to accept your new character?

No, it wasn’t difficult for me at all, because I know the good reason for it. And I also know that with sport I can regain my old figure after a certain period of time, for example six months. Almost anything is possible if you really want it.

Have you often put yourself under pressure because of your figure?

I have never put myself under pressure in this regard. What about that? I am very confident. From my point of view, the body is an instrument; you can shape and control it, provided you are healthy, physically and mentally. From my point of view, today’s ideal of body and beauty is wrong. A thin body is not important and worth striving for, but a sporty, healthy body – whether it is ten kilos or more is not decisive. You just have to feel good and not pay attention to what others think and say about you.

Do you have a tip for all women who – due to Corona – have become dissatisfied with their figure?

Yes. You should take a lot of time for yourself and reflect on what you are really unhappy with. Often it is not because of the body. As I said, it is not so important to just lose weight, the first priority should be to get and keep your body healthy and fit. I myself want to have a long, healthy life, which among other things requires a stable cardiovascular system, the muscles are fit, posture and breathing are good. Then I hold out physically when I’m sick.

So: the health aspect should be the focus. That also helps in everyday life. In such difficult times as now you are of course limited with all the closed sports facilities, but there are various online offers for at home, yoga classes and much more that we can all do.

And of course, go out into the fresh air, walk, jog – the main thing is to move. Of course, personally, I think dancing is the best. This is a full body workout that combines stamina, coordination, muscle strength and posture and all of this to music and a lot of fun. Dancing is culture, art and sport rolled into one.

Positive energy in times of Corona

How do you create a positive mind set for yourself?

I rely on an old athlete and show trick: concentrate on your strengths! I don’t just tell my students at “Let’s Dance” or in my dance school, I really try to live by it. To always focus: What are my strengths? What makes me happy I know that I am privileged now in the Corona period. If I didn’t have my baby, I would look for some kind of project and then go through with it, put my energy in somewhere. If you have really little or nothing good at the moment, you should try to get help from your family, friends or even a coach.

How did Corona change your life?

As I said, the positive aspect is having more time for my family and me. Professionally, however, it looks difficult, my husband’s and I’s dance school has been closed for a long time now. Like others from the field of culture and leisure, we don’t see any prospects at the moment.

At this point I would also like to say: people miss art, sport, culture. We can contribute so much to people’s quality of life and health, to relationships. We are systemically relevant on this point. That’s why I have a certain basic understanding of the “close everything up” campaign. Yes, they could have been communicated differently and better, but in general I understand the hopelessness of many people and colleagues. It’s hard to make your voice heard in these times of pandemic. We too are worried about how things will continue financially. Of course we are also trying to get support. But that is no guarantee that you will survive afterwards and for how long. And above all: how do people react – do they want to go to dance classes at all, so much closeness? Has society changed?

On the other hand, dancing is in people, it is such an old cultural asset, a beautiful, passionate form of communication. You can put all your energy into it. There will always be. But the school couldn’t survive with just one couple per dance class. That is why we have to wait for the opening conditions.

It is not yet certain whether I will return to “Let’s Dance” as a dancer. It is too early to say that. Now I will keep my fingers crossed for all of my colleagues, especially our student Patricija Belousova, who dances with Sion Zachenhuber, and Nicolas Puschmann. No, actually all of them.

What role does sustainability play for you and how important are sustainable products such as lipsticks from “OYESS” to you?

Sustainability is of great and increasing importance in my life. As a Swede, I probably have that in me a little too, we don’t just have Greta (laughs), but are generally known for the fact that we are very environmentally conscious. What I think is great about my home country Sweden is that positive trends spread very quickly, and it was and is also the case with sustainability.

I myself have thought about it a lot before, but now with Corona, but also the pregnancy, I had even more time to reflect on it. I am now at the age where I not only want to talk but also want to act. So I try to consume consciously and consistently in everyday life or to do without it. For example, I take a close look at cleaning agents and packaging, including cosmetics. I avoid plastic as much as possible, eat less meat, but this in organic quality. I also consume less when it comes to clothing, not just according to the motto “The main thing is cheap and two parts for it”. Less is more.
