In the columns of the magazine, Isabelle Adjani spoke of her complicity with her niece, Zoé Adjani, a “blessed child” whose many qualities she admires: “His intelligence, his determination, the sincerity of his commitments. She is an example of resilience. The painful way of life then the death of his father, my brother Ericof which we speak with love, did not darken his desire”she confided.
Isabelle Adjani expressed her desire to be there for her niece Zoé, without however replacing her mother: “To love tenderly, to be his aunt at every shared moment is enough for me”she said.

Zoé Adjani was only twelve years old when her father Éric died following a heart attack at the age of 53. The family had to face this painful loss, in particular Isabelle Adjani who was only two years apart from the one she called her “double”.
Renowned and talented photographer, Éric Hakim Adjani quickly faced many addictions, which damaged his physical and mental health. Despite their close ages, Isabelle Adjani has always watched over her little brother, for fear that mishaps happen to him: “And of course, things have happened to him. He plunged into the nightlife and its excesses – alcohol, drugs, a form of madness. And yet he seemed indestructible”she recalled in 2014, during an interview with vogue.

For Isabelle Adjani, the disappearance of her brother Éric was particularly difficult to accept. The iconic actress had to grieve with a terrible sense of failure: “Failing to help someone you love get out of it”she confided to Illustrated in 2018.
In the same newspaper, the actress revealed that her brother’s condition had sometimes influenced her career choices, even leading her to refuse certain shoots that required travel: “I gave it up because as soon as I left, a tragedy always happened and I had to come back. I ended up feeling like a superstition that if I stayed, no one would die.”she said. “I had become a guarantee of survival for my brother, my father and my mother”she finished.
