Isère/Hautes-Alpes A hiker dies after a fall in the Ecrins National Park

A hiker was killed after a fall on Friday evening at Col Turbat, in the Écrins National Park, report our colleagues from Dauphine Libere.

Aged 30 and from Dordogne, the victim, whose body could not be recovered until Saturday morning, was accompanied by another hiker, who alerted the emergency services.

A route error

According The Dauphine Liberethe two hikers made a mistake on their route and found themselves in a completely impassable rock face.

The Turbat pass (2,679 m), located in the town of Valjouffrey (in Isère), “can only be reached by unstable terrain, typical of Oisans and surprising for those who are not used to the massif”, according to the Écrins National Park website.
