INTERVIEW. The Union of French Muslims is presenting a hundred candidates for the legislative elections and hopes to obtain public funding.

VS’is the most surprising political initiative of these legislative elections: the Union of French Muslims (UDMF) presents around a hundred candidates for deputy… compared to 10 candidates in 2017. In five years, the small party has slowly established itself in the landscape, presenting candidates for the regional as well as the European ones. Although this structure defends itself from any communitarian vocation, the UDMF assumes its “Muslim religious ethic” and does not hesitate to promote the veil on its leaflets. The movement, which claims to carry the demands of the “natives of the republic 2.0”, does not place religious demands at the heart of its program, even if the themes of identity, which have become common on the left, constitute a structuring axis of its discourse.
