Israel-Hamas: “Anti-Zionism is a renewed form of anti-Semitism,” says Aurore Bergé

At the microphone of Europe 1-CNews, the Minister of Solidarity and Families, Aurore Bergé, took a position on the tragic news in the Middle East and its repercussions on France. She notably returned to the attacks of October 7 perpetrated by Hamas in the south of Israel: “It is the worst tragedy in the history of Israel and the Jewish community since the Shoah, it is the deliberate will to kill Jews because they are Jews.

“If we do not feel concerned by October 7 and by these stars of David which are written on the buildings, that means that we are not up to what it means to be French and this republican pact “, she added.

Prohibition of demonstrations

Faced with the rise in anti-Semitic acts since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas and the holding of certain banned demonstrations, the minister declared: “During the previous mandate, we fought a lot to modify the definition of what is anti-Semitism. It was clearly said that anti-Zionism, that is to say the denial of Israel’s right to exist, was a renewed form of anti-Semitism. Who today could deny the fact that, obviously, anti-Zionism is a renewed form of anti-Semitism?”

During demonstrations in support of Palestine, which have taken place almost everywhere in France since the start of the war, the minister notes the use of “hate” slogans. However, she does not believe that every demonstrator is motivated by anti-Semitic or hateful reasons: “I think that there are people who are sincerely alarmed by the humanitarian situation and obviously want there to be humanitarian corridors. And obviously humanitarian aid is arriving in Gaza. This is why France is mobilized, why the European Union is mobilized and it is legitimate among the civilian populations.”

The minister recalls that France is the only country within the European Union to ban a certain number of demonstrations in support of Palestine for fear of excesses.
