Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announced on Sunday that 1,040 anti-Semitic acts had been committed in France and that 486 people had been arrested since October 7, the start of the war between Hamas and Israel.

“The number of anti-Semitic acts has exploded,” declared the minister, interviewed on France 2 news. Among the 486 arrested, “102” are foreigners, he added. Asked about the speech of certain elected officials on the conflict, Gérald Darmanin replied that “rebellious France, the extreme left of Jean-Luc Mélenchon did not help us achieve national harmony”.

257 anti-Semitic acts and 90 arrests in the Paris metropolitan area

Paris police chief Laurent Nuñez, for his part, indicated on Sunday that there had been 257 anti-Semitic acts in the Paris metropolitan area and 90 arrests.

There is “no typical profile”, added the police prefect. “We find all the profiles, young kids, who say very serious things”, but also “people more anchored in the defense of the pro-Palestinian cause and who slip up”, he said.

Regarding the Stars of David sprayed on several buildings in Paris and its surrounding area last week, the police chief spoke of a “coordinated action” which “seems to involve a team of perpetrators”.
