JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Israel has lowered the death toll from the October 7 Hamas attack on its territory to around 1,200 deaths instead of the previous 1,400 deaths, a spokesperson for the Israeli Foreign Ministry said on Friday. .

“Around 1,200 is the official number of victims of the October 7 massacre,” Lior Haiat said in a written response to Reuters. He added that this report was updated on Thursday. He did not provide a reason for this revision.

The count, which includes foreign nationals, “is not a definitive figure.” “This is an updated estimate. It could change when (they) have identified all the bodies,” he added.
