Israeli forces are stepping up operations in the occupied West Bank after the attack that killed five people on Tuesday evening in the suburbs of Tel Aviv.
At least two Palestinians were killed Thursday morning in an Israeli army raid in the northern occupied West Bank, the Palestinian health ministry said. The two Palestinians, aged 17 and 23, were killed “by the Israeli occupying forces who were carrying out an incursion into the area of Jenin”, the ministry said. Other officials also reported serious injuries.
Israeli forces have been stepping up operations since Wednesday in the occupied West Bank after the attack that killed five people on Tuesday evening in the streets of Bnei Brak and Ramat Gan, localities in the suburbs of Tel Aviv. The perpetrator of the attack was a young Palestinian from Yaabad, a village near Jenin. In one week, there have been three armed attacks in Israel.
The Israeli army confirmed that soldiers and members of the Border Police, a paramilitary unit, “operated” Thursday morning in the Jenin area in order to apprehend “suspects”. “During this operation, Palestinian gunmen opened fire on the troops who retaliated by opening fire”the army said, adding that a soldier had been slightly injured and taken to hospital.
