Casualties in new exchanges of fire on the border between Israel and Lebanon
New exchanges of fire on Saturday between the Israeli army and Lebanese Hezbollah fighters caused deaths and injuries in the border area between the two countries.
In Lebanon, the Hezbollah movement, an ally of Hamas, claimed that four of its fighters had been killed in the clashes. Islamic Jihad, a Palestinian armed group, announced the death of one of its fighters.
The Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) said in the evening that the Israeli Air Force had carried out raids near the border, notably in Alma Al-Shaab, Yarin and Dhayra, and also spoke of “significant bombings near Yaroun”next to Bint Jbeil.
The Israeli army reported a series of incidents on Saturday in northern Israel, such as the firing of an anti-tank missile towards the agricultural village of Baram by Hezbollah fighters, which injured three Israeli soldiers. , one seriously and two slightly.
The army also said in the evening that it had struck a position from which the Lebanese Shiite group was seeking to fire anti-tank missiles towards the Shlomi region. Two Thais were injured by shrapnel near the agricultural village of Margaliot, already the scene of shooting the day before, according to Israeli emergencies.
Hezbollah said on Saturday that it had targeted the Hanita sector with “guided missiles”as well as the “Al-Abbad website”claiming to have destroyed“technical equipment”. He also says he bombed “the position of Ruwaisat Al-Alam”in the disputed sector of Chebaa farms.
Hezbollah’s number two, Sheikh Naïm Qassem, once again threatened an escalation: “Depending on events, if an event arises requiring increased intervention on our part, we will do so”he warned during the funeral of a Hezbollah fighter.
These new exchanges of fire took place while Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant visited soldiers stationed in the north of the country. “Hezbollah has decided to take part in the fight, and is paying the price”he said.
At least twenty-six people have been killed in southern Lebanon since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas, including more than fifteen Hezbollah fighters, but also civilians including a Reuters journalist, according to a count from Agence France-Presse.
On the Israeli side, three soldiers and a civilian were killed in exchanges of fire with Hezbollah, the army said.
