While more than 15,000 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the start of the Israeli response, the coordinator of La France insoumise Manuel Bompard declared at the microphone of the Grand Rendez-vous to fear “a risk of ethnic cleansing or even genocidal”. He also returned to the role that France could play in establishing a peace process in the Middle East.
More than 15,000 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip since October 7 and the Israeli response to the Hamas terrorist attack. If he calls for “creating the conditions for there to be a peace agreement”, the politician fears above all “a risk of ethnic cleansing or even a genocidal risk” in the Gaza Strip.
“The actions of the Israeli army are a massacre”
For Manuel Bompard, “the Israeli far-right government is an outlaw from the point of view of international law: the UN says so, all international observers say so. The question is to know how to ensure that people stop suffering? That bombs no longer fall on civilian populations?” he asks.
Insisting on the fact that “the massacres of Hamas are unbearable and the actions of the Israeli army which bomb the civilian populations of Gaza in violation of international law are unbearable”, the coordinator of France insoumise considers that “the actions of Israeli army are a massacre, are unacceptable barbarity.
What role for France?
The member for Bouches-du-Rhône also questions the role that France could play in the establishment of a peace process in the Middle East. Demanding, “as international law says, two States within the borders before 1967”, in other words, the creation of a Palestinian State alongside the State of Israel, Manuel Bompard regrets that “the President of the “République changes its position depending on its interlocutor. These permanent prevarications have ridiculed France’s words on an international scale,” according to him.
Manuel Bompard calls for “ensuring that the word of France is a point of reference, a name which allows peace to be obtained as quickly as possible, an actor which tries to bring all the belligerents around the table to find a political solution through negotiation, as has always been the case,” he concludes at the Grand Rendez-vous microphone.
