Issey Miyake has died at the age of 84

And again the fashion world has to say goodbye to another luminary. Japanese designer Issey Miyake succumbed to liver cancer on August 5 and died at the age of 84. Issey Miyake made a name for himself as a fashion designer, especially in the 70s and 80s. He experimented with materials and cuts. Fashion should be functional and simple, which is why he pursued the idea of making clothing from a single piece of fabric.

Born in Hiroshima in 1938, Issey Miyake survived the 1945 atomic bomb but did not want to be defined by it, although as a result he suffered from a bone marrow disease that left him with a limp. In a 2009 campaign for The New York Times, he wrote: “I have tried, albeit unsuccessfully, to put it behind me and prefer to think of things to create rather than think of them to destroy, and to bring beauty and joy.”

Not only his fashion designs are known worldwide to this day, his fragrance creations also reflect his uniqueness. Sophistication and some joie de vivre again.
