Seven years after its announcement, this Nintendo Switch exclusive has finally revealed its first images during a Nintendo Direct. Faced with its technical and visual quality, some wonder if the title would not run on the next console from the Japanese manufacturer. To end the debate, this expert gives a relentless answer!

That’s it. Seven years after its announcement, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is finally officially being talked about again. During the Nintendo Direct broadcast on June 18, the latest adventures of Samus Aran were the “one more thing” of the event, that is to say the final announcement of the stream. And what can I say other than that Internet users were pleasantly surprised to see this Arlesian from the Nintendo Switch again, which even had a release date set in 2025, without further details. But finally, what surprised social networks the most was especially the graphics revealed.

Metroid Prime 4, a visual slap in the face?

During this short two-minute trailer, we can see a mix between cutscenes and gameplay images. And clearly, Internet users were amazed by the rendering for a game supposed to run on a console released in 2017. The title presents a fine image resolution, a frame rate planned to be 60 fps, all in detailed settings. Really, in the face of games heavily criticized for their graphics like Pokémon Legends: Arceus and Pokémon Scarlet/Purple which are exclusives, this result is all the more surprising.

Faced with these graphics, many Internet users began to imagine that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was the first title for the next Nintendo console. If the latter has not been officially revealed, the Japanese manufacturer has confirmed that it will communicate on it before the end of the fiscal year which ends in April 2025. However, since Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is planned for 2025, many Internet users have made the connection between these two pieces of information. However, we clearly see at the start of the trailer the Nintendo Switch logo which therefore indicates that the title should be released on it. But as this is not enough to convince some, a technical expert entered the debate to clarify things.

Does Metroid Prime 4 run on Switch? Yes !

Recently, Richard Leadbetter, journalist for Digital Foundry, spoke with IGN to talk about the graphics of Metroid Prime 4. As a reminder, Digital Foundry is a site and a YouTube channel which specializes in video game technology and which has numerous tools to measure different criteria. So, during this interview, Richard Leadbetter reveals the game runs at 900p… the same resolution as Metroid Prime Remastered coming to Nintendo Switch in 2023. And then, we can see some technical shortcomings such as slight drops in refresh rates and slight aliasing issues. In other words, it is entirely credible that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond runs on Nintendo Switch and we can play it directly on the current Nintendo console without having to go to the checkout next year.
