Lhe violence in society is not a new phenomenon. However, the number of victims of domestic violence has continued to increase in recent years, highlighting a serious and growing problem in our society and thus the urgency of strengthening victim protection systems and raising awareness of the dangers of this scourge. .

This violence spares no civilization, no social class, but takes various forms. Among these, violence committed within the family unit holds a special place, existing behind closed doors, under the yoke of secrecy, of the unspoken, causing a devastating effect on individuals. This brutality, whether physical, economic, psychological or sexual, tears apart family ties and leaves deep scars on the people who are its victims.

“The family, this haven of security, is at the same time the place of extreme violence” : this sentence taken from the book Affective Foodsby Boris Cyrulnik (Odile Jacob, 2000), famous psychoanalyst and psychiatrist, perfectly illustrates the complexity of domestic violence.

Fear, pain and destruction

They are a dark reflection of our society, a sad manifestation of the fragility of the bonds that should unite us. In the sacred context of the family, acts of violence transgress the boundaries of love and trust and challenge our most essential moral foundations.

The family, supposed to be a place of refuge, support and fulfillment, sometimes turns into a battlefield where fear, pain and destruction triumph. Domestic violence is often rooted in patterns of unequal power, emotional imbalances and cycles of violence perpetuated from generation to generation.

These conflictual and often unhealthy relationships led, in 2022, to the deaths of 145 people: 118 women, 27 men and 12 children (“ National study on violent deaths within couples 2022 », Ministry of the Interior and Overseas Territories).

The Ministry of the Interior also specified that the security services had recorded, for the year 2022, 244,000 victims of violence committed by their partner or ex-partner, an increase of 15% compared to 2021.
