The Parisian was able to speak with Irene Taylor to better understand behind the scenes of this shoot. It all started at the end of 2021, during a Zoom interview between the director and the singer. And quickly afterwards, Céline Dion learned that she was suffering from a rare disease. “I didn’t know she was sick before we started filming. To my great surprise, Céline didn’t want to cancel it”reveals Irene Taylor.

To make this documentary, Celine Dion authorized Irene Taylor to film her without ever asking her permission. She greets the film crew without makeup, with her hair pulled back in a bun. No fuss, Céline Dion intends to show herself naturally and bare herself in this documentary. As a result, the artist freely addresses the very rare illness from which she suffers: stiff person syndrome.
“She was the one who spoke to me most directly about the illness, its consequences, its treatment. The first time she talks to me about it, we see it in the film, it’s incredibly sincere,” reveals Irene Taylor in the columns of Le Parisien. And the most notable event was the day the director witnessed Celine Dion having a crisis. This scene was entirely filmed and included in the documentary.

A difficult scene to watch
Le Parisien describes the scene by indicating that the singer is returning from a grueling studio session, during which she tries to sing after two months of silence. But his body does not follow her and stiffens. Celine Dion then went into spasms for several minutes. “We see her body stiffen, her eyes lose focus, she has has difficulty breathing, her lips tremble, she moans, cries in pain”, describe The Parisian.
“It’s the worst thing I’ve ever filmed. I was so uncomfortable, panicked. I was all alone with the doctor and the cameraman in the room, I had headphones on and I could barely hear his breathing.” confides Irene Taylor, very shocked by this scene. Before adding: “It lasted forty minutes before she regained consciousness! I was so uncomfortable…I wondered if I should continue filming, but I had worked with her enough before to know that I had to do it, even if I didn’t keep the scene.”
