Robert Lewandowski’s goals have led FC Bayern to numerous successes, and last season he broke an all-time record. The Pole is honored for his extraordinary achievements.
Star striker Robert Lewandowski has received an award from the Laureus World Sports Academy for his extraordinary achievements. This was announced at the Laureus World Sports Awards in Seville, Spain. The soccer professional from FC Bayern Munich received the Laureus Academy Exceptional Achievement Award at the digital ceremony “at the special request” of the Academy, according to a statement, after breaking Gerd’s goal record of almost 50 years with 41 goals in the previous season Müller had broken in the Bundesliga.
“It really means a lot to me to be recognized and appreciated by such wonderful people, athletes and legends from all over the world of sport. It has a very special meaning for me as an athlete and as a person,” said Pole Lewandowski according to the announcement. There was also praise from Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann: “But with Robert it’s not just about his performance, it’s also about his social commitment off the pitch. He’s a role model.”
Ex-professional Gerald Asamoah and the film “Schwarze Adler”, which documents the experiences of black players in German football, were also honored. Asamoah, who was also active for the German national team between 2001 and 2006, is strongly committed to the fight against racism and was honored for his role as “Advocate for the Athletes”. “I’m very, very proud on behalf of my Black Eagles team. It’s a pleasure to do the work I do,” Asamoah said, while cautioning, “We still have a long way to go, but we are still fighting racism. I hope we can make it. Never stop fighting racism.”
Other winners include Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen as Sportsman of the Year. Jamaican Olympic sprint champion Elaine Thompson-Herah received the honors in the women’s event. Italy’s national football team prevailed among the teams.
