“It shouldn’t be that…”: sentenced for the murder of his wife, he makes a shock statement on his release from prison

It is a long affair which began on February 28, 1985, near Chaville, in the Hauts-de-Seine. That night, Evelyne Laborde is the victim of an accident while she was in her 2CV with her husband, Bruno Joushomme. If the young man, 40 years his junior, manages to extricate himself from the burning car, this is not the case with the one he had married three months earlier, who dies charred.

If the first findings suggest a ordinary road accidentthe investigation then turns to a murder. Indeed, the family of Évelyne Laborde accuses the widower of having disguised his murder in order to inherit a colossal sum. 14 years after the events, Bruno Joushomme is finally sentenced to life imprisonment by the court of Nanterre. A real blow for the one who had rebuilt his life and who had always proclaimed his innocence.

Bruno Joushomme: “We must restore truth and justice”.

In 2020, Bruno Joushomme was released after 21 years behind bars. Since its release, it has embarked on a long fight to make revise his life sentence, 38 years after the death of his wife. “It shouldn’t happen to anyone else. We must restore truth and justice” he told the Parisianin an article published on Sunday, January 29, 2023.

Indeed, the now 60-year-old felt he “should be crazy or an animal” to commit such a crime. He explained about his former in-laws : “It’s the sad story of a little idealist, a little ‘chtarbé’ who didn’t see where he was stepping. Either in a basket of crabs that only talked about heritage, money and heritage“. Finally, Bruno Joushomme estimated that he had not been judged in “reasonable deadlines“. Enough to question the whole investigation around the death of Evelyne Laborde.
